VOLUNTEERING

Volunteers are central to the development of Women’s Voices. They help us grow and strengthen the organisation, while building their own resilience, skills and work experience.

SHARE SKILLS. BUILD CONFIDENCE.

Volunteers work alongside our team to deliver services, welcome women into the centre and make community activities possible. They support our weekly drop-ins, help with environmental, recycling and upcycling activities, food growing and healthy eating sessions, arts, crafts and sewing, and help organise trips and events. Many of our workshops and training sessions are facilitated by experienced freelance practitioners, with volunteers supporting delivery on the day.

Some volunteers go on to lead sessions themselves, building experience and progressing towards paid facilitation and employment routes. Volunteering helps women to become more resilient, grow in confidence and gain practical work experience, from supporting others and working as part of a team to taking on responsibility.

Many former service users go on to volunteer themselves, sharing their experience and strengthening the support available to other women. For some, volunteering is the first step back into structured activity after a difficult period. For others, it is a way to put existing professional skills to use in a new country.

Whatever background you bring, we match opportunities to your interests and availability. New volunteers are always welcomed, trained and supported before taking anything on alone.

PART OF THE COMMUNITY

Volunteering creates opportunities to contribute, meet people, develop experience and help other women feel welcome and supported. It also keeps Women’s Voices rooted in real community rather than a service delivered from the outside: many of the women running sessions today first walked through our doors looking for support themselves.

If you are looking for a way to use your time, skills or lived experience meaningfully, whether that is an afternoon a month or a regular weekly slot, there is very likely a role here for you.
